Gladys received her Masters in Clinical Psychology in 1977 from St. Mary’s University and taught at St. Philip’s College for 23½ years until her early retirement in 1999. She was an Art Minor in college and has applied her skills to jewelry making since the early 80s, first as a hobby and stress relief, later as a business. She has taken classes in Bead Stringing, Glass Bead Making, Wire Wrapping, Precious Metal Clay and Metal Smithing. She continues to take classes in Metal Smithing at the Southwest School of Arts & Crafts here in San Antonio, TX. She is a member of Go Texan, MJSA and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers and the PMC Guild. She is certified in PMC.

Gladys primarily makes glass beads to use in her jewelry making. She took her first Glass Beadmaking class in 1994 from Linda Honeycutt-Le Grand in Austin. She also makes beaded necklaces, bracelets, watches and earrings. She uses glass beads, semi-precious stones, Czech glass, Swarovski Crystal and Sterling Silver in her jewelry.

She makes Face Beads and Cabochons in the Francihini-Sytle Faces. She took a class with Loren Stump at the Corning Glass School in Corning, N.Y to learn the Francihini-Sytle shaded faces. Gladys’ glasswork has been published in two books: 1000 Glass Beads by Kimberley Adams page 285, The Complete Book of Glass Beadmaking page 169.

She has taught Beginner’s, Intermediate and Advanced classes in glass Beadmaking at the Stainglass Crafter’s Workbench located on 7475 Echert in San Antonio. In 2007, her work was selected to appear in the All School Exhibition at the Southwest School or Arts & Craft. The piece was inspired from pictures she took on her son’s property in Boerne, TX thus the name Fall Boerne Bloom.
